Explore & enjoy the outdoors!
I was surfing around on my Facebook page this morning doing a little follow up and decided to follow up with Rue Mapp of Outdoor Afro when I noticed that Rue had been in Washington D.C. this past Friday [4/16/10] for President Obama's White House Conference on America's Great Outdoors and I was instantly green with envy. I acknowledge that I can't be in more than one place at a time, but as an advocate of outdoor experiential learning [for multicultural girls in particular], I soooooo wanted to be there and I definitely feel like I missed out. I guess when the White House press release came out, I was too wrapped up in other things. I definitely need a clone. Not that it matters much; particularly since I wasn't invited. LOL.
Anywho, it wasn't surprising to read the Washington Post and see that the Interior Department of the White House was quoted as saying that "American children are spending half as much time outside as their parents did." That's certainly no secret. So in line with the First Lady's Let's Move initiative and the President's America's Great Outdoors Initiative that he signed on Friday, let's put down our Blackberry's, iPod's, video games and laptops for just a little while and remember to make a concerted effort to take some time to explore and enjoy the outdoors.
